I was talking to another mom one day while picking my daughter up from school (before Corona) and she said, sometimes she feels bad because she is not the perfect mom. I said to her none of us are, we all make mistakes and do things a way that can sometimes be wrong, but it all works out for greatness somehow. Then when I got home, the Lord kept telling me perfection is not a necessity. Why do we have this fascination with being perfect? I have gone through it myself many times. I can't tell you how often I have unraveled a completed project because I messed up, decided not to wear a particular outfit or completely redid my hair because it wasn't perfect. Christians often feel that they have to be perfect in the eyes of the church to be used or hold office, unbelievers say "I have to get myself right before I come to the Lord" as if they can become a vision of perfection on their own. Let's be clear, there is no one perfect besides Christ, not even me.
The word perfect is described as: Having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics, as good as it is possible to be. Being perfect is an ideal that we strive to be, however we are still flesh and will make mistakes. That does not mean that God cannot use us. He used many in the Bible that were not perfect, from the beginning to the end. He used Noah who was a drunk, Moses who was a murderer and had a speech impediment, Abraham who lied about Sarah being his wife, Rahab who was a harlot, Peter who denied Christ 3 times before the cock crowed (just as Jesus said he would), the disciples who could not stay awake while Jesus went up for prayer for just an hour, a donkey which complained about being mistreated and then there are everyday people like you and ME. People who the Lord pulls on to draw others to his loving arms, his word and his Spirit.
We are not perfect and the Lord created us as such so that we could be on the level to relate to others. To see that we too have been in a particular place of imperfection, but we are constantly moving to be used by the Lord for the edification of his Kingdom. The Lord wants to do the work, he will begin the work of taking away your desires that are not like his and increasing your desire for his word. All we have to do is follow what the word says, But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 KJV
The Lord will clean you up and make you whole, perfect in his eyes with the ability to stand against the wiles and tricks of the enemy. You can never be perfect in the eyes of man because man always wants more, man is never happy and will continually ask you to compromise to please their own flesh, which is not pleasing to the Lord. The Lord is the only one that can help you to attain a level of perfection. Can you ask and answer this question truthfully for yourself. Does it matter if you are not perfect in the eyes of man?
I had to sit down and have a talk with my children about perfection after that experience. I explained to them that Mommy is not perfect and I will make mistakes. I also explained that I am doing the best that I can in raising, loving and admonishing them with the Lord's help. I lean into God for guidance and understanding on all matters pertaining to them. I also explained that striving for perfection and being perfect are 2 different things while allowing them space to ask questions. I wanted to leave them knowing that it is okay to not be the perfect child and remove the pressures of the world off of them, just for a little bit. This opened the door for my children to know and understand that mistakes will be made and as a mom, it is my duty to help them correct it, try again and do better next time, from a place of love, not perfection.

That was beautifully said, I’m a mother of three adult children and I still make mistakes . But God, thank you for your encouraging words I enjoyed reading your blog it was encouraging to me .❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you Ms, Karen! I appreciate you reading and being encouraged. That is one of the reasons why I continue writing. We will all make mistakes until we are gone but Pray and ask for Forgiveness, allow yourself to see the lesson and do better! Thank you again.

ReplyDeleteIt was wonderfully said, I strive for perfection. I'm always me in an out of church. If I try to act perfect then who am I lying to cause God God know who I am. I attended church cause I'm sick an weak and need to hear what God has for me. To better myself cause if I hear the word read the word I have to show myself improved. If I was perfect I wouldn't be here. Even being wounded an broken I still strive for perfection. God is still with me to guide me for perfection. So I will continue to strive cause this to shall pass.
Amen keep striving and living to please God! Yes maam, this too shall pass. Be Blessed!
